Programs that We Offer
Day Program
Our day program focuses on functional academics and social skills, as well as daily
life skills.
We maintain a smaller ratio than typical classroom settings and have the advantage
of typical children being enrolled. Classes are comprised of children within a general
age range with mixed abilities. The program is designed for each child to gain all the
necessary skills and understanding to succeed in other environments and to continue
to thrive academically and socially.
Throughout the day, children make self-directed and guided choices using Choice
Boards, participate in small groups and projects, join in circle-times with the whole
group, and receive one on one ABA therapy. Changes to the learning environment,
activities, and projects reflect emerging interests and individual goals.
The classroom provides a print rich environment to promote and encourage
language. Learning centers offer guided experiences that encompass all the skills
and understandings necessary for optimum development and success in school.
Teachers and Therapists are dedicated to each child’s success and not only
encourage BUT expect full participation. We believe that every child has potential to be
successful if he is given the right tools to overcome obstacles.
Social Skills Program
This program is designed to teach social skills in a naturalistic way. We work in many
different environments so that the skills are generalized easily.
* Making friends
* Building self confidence
* Accepting “no” for an answer
* Waiting one’s turn
* Following directions
* Dealing with anger and frustration
* Accepting the consequences administered by an adult
* Compromising on issues
* Seeking attention in an appropriate manner
* Joining a group activity already in progress
* Transitioning smoothly to the next activity
* Cooperating with peers
Summer Program
Our summer program, like our day program during the school year, focuses on
functional academics, social skills and daily life skills. During the summer, the social
skills program is intensified and includes multiple field trips and community outings
each week. Academics continue to be a strong focus over the summer, promoting not
only retention, but progress.
Therapy Programs
One-on-one behavior therapy is provided as part of every child’s program who is
enrolled full or part time at Giggles. Additional therapy may also be available. Therapy
may be provided independent of other services at Giggles as well. Therapists are
trained in the principles of applied behavior analysis and verbal behavior. Discrete
trial methods are used along with opportunities for instruction and generalization in
the natural environment. The environment is contrived to provide maximum
opportunities for practice in the development of skills. Therapist focus on goals set for
each individual child in the intensive setting of one-on-one therapy as well as promote
generalization by assisting the child in participation in the classroom environment.
We also provide therapy based on the DIR/Floortime model.
Intensive social skills therapy may also be provided as needed by pairing students
into dyads to facilitate the teaching of these skills in a contrived environment and then
immediately generalizing those skills to a more naturalistic setting.
